Richard A. Young is currently Professor of Painting.
Originally hailing from Birmingham, Michigan, he holds a B.F.A. with honors, from Northern Michigan University, an M.A. in Art Education from Boise State University and an M.F.A. from Washington State University in 1986.
Richard Young served as Chair of the Art Department (2003 – 2013) and Gallery Director of the Boise State Visual Arts Center (1994 -2012) organizing numerous national and international exhibitions. Other work experience includes Curator of Education for Boise Art Museum and Artist in Residence/Master Teacher for the State Department of Education working with teachers and students in over 60 elementary schools in Southwest Idaho. Other activities include service as commissioner for the City of Boise, Department of Arts and History, member-at-large for the Idaho Commission on the Arts and trustee of Boise Art Museum. He currently serves as Chair of the University Art Collections committee.
Richard A Young is also a recognized artist whose paintings and drawings have been included in numerous exhibitions throughout the country. His past work examined historical euro-centric depictions of the landscape by subverting cultural context. His new body of work examines identity, sentimentality and loss.
