This website is a dedication to Ruth Freyberger, the country’s first woman to obtain a Ph.D. in Art Education. Throughout, you’ll find information about Ruth’s life, from her early years to her professional contributions to the field of art education.
Most of the biographical information in this story was provided by Ruth in a presentation that she gave to the Women’s Caucus at the National Art Education Association Convention when she received the June King McFee Award in 1979.
More information comes from my years of knowing and working with Dr. Freyberger as a colleague and friend between 1980 and 2002. Our personal correspondence is preserved in the Boise State University Special Collection Archives, Boise, Idaho.
